Waterford Man Fed Up With High Gas Prices; Circulates Petitions to Get the Attention of Members of Congress

Phil Williamson is trying to show members of Congress that the voices of the people still matter, and Americans for Prosperity wants to help. Williamson has been circulating petitions in and around his native town of Waterford to try and get the attention of Congress when it comes to gas prices. In the petition, Williamson informs elected officials in Washington that we (the people of Wisconsin) are at our "wits end" with high oil and gas prices. The petition further calls for action from our Representatives in the form of exploration and drilling for oil in the United States, in addition to the building of new oil refineries.

"Americans for Prosperity has been trying to get this point across to the lawmakers in Washington and Madison for a long time now," said State AFP Director Mark Block. "We are going to have some real problems if our elected officials blatantly ignore the voices and opinions of the people that elected them to Congress in the first place. Phil Williamson has taken it upon himself to stand up to Washington, and we want to show him he's not alone."

"It has a trickle down effect, as Ronald Regan used to say, but this is a trickle in a bad direction," said Williamson in an interview with Block. Williamson has worked as a truck driver since he was 16 years old, and in September he will turn 54. In his 38 years as a truck driver, Williamson says he's never seen gas prices quite this bad.

Williamson is aiming for 2000 signatures, a lofty goal by all means, but one that he feels is attainable with the help and support of fellow citizens who are tired of paying $4 a gallon for gas.
The petition seeks to inform legislators that Wisconsinites have had enough of high energy prices, and that the solution is right here at home. Williamson is advocating for the exploration and drilling for oil in the United States and boundaries (land and sea). In addition to drilling, Williamson insists that new oil refineries are built.

"The more [signatures] we get, the strong the message to our Representatives," said Williamson. When asked if he felt that one person could stand up to city hall, he replied "1 times 2000, 1 times 10,000; sooner or later they have to listen. If you don't sign up, please don't complain to me about how high gas prices are."
